| Devotion 2:
Courage:
Today’s world can be one scary place. A list of
fears and phobias that plague us could reach to the heavens. Fear of flying,
fear of driving, fear of doctors or dentists, fear of ___________, fill
in the blank. We need to know what God has to say about courage so
we can overcome our fears.
When God spoke to Joshua about taking the leadership
from Moses, He gave Joshua some words we can all use when our fears overtake
us. “Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be dismayed,
for the Lord thy God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9. One verse
I always call to mind when I need to face a situation that demands courage
is Ephesians 6:10 “Be strong in the Lord, and the power of His might.”
It especially comes in handy when trying to witness to someone. We need
His strength, not our own.
Winston Churchill said, “Courage is rightly esteemed
the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees
all others.” As Christians, we have the Lord our God with us wherever we
go; and we have no need to fear any situation. We are to use caution as
we move forward, as long as we move. We are not to let our fears keep us
from doing what the Lord has called us to do. As we move through
the new year, let us be neither afraid nor dismayed by what we might have
to face. Let us be strong in the Lord and the power of His might.
